1). Well this year went great for me. This year's math class has helped me because you showed me how to grow as a math person. you've taught me how to project my self as a college student using the computers.
2). I wouldn't mind you sending the letter to the company of my choice.
3). Keep doing what your doing, great job. you just need to be mindful of others, everybody doesn't think like you, also you should explain your task a little bit more.
All The Best
Thanks Wan :)

1). the overall task of today's lesson was to use TI connect to insert the function and graph from the calculator so we can be able to insert the image to google docs inside the 2 column table.
2). it was necessary because we reduce the surface area but we kept the volume the same. also to show the reader what we did and how we did it.

1)The new surface area is going to be used for my PBAT when I define the height for my can, and also when i simplifying my functions. The ultimate goal is to use the new function in solving for the height of the cans, and to make our can cheaper by using less material but still keeping the same volume.
2) I would use this function to visually represent the relationship between the height and the surface area by changing the height and showing the difference between the surface area by doing a before and after model.I will also create an actual figure and change the height and surface area of my can in order to show the relationship between the two.

1).It is necessary for us to combine two formulas in so we can simplify our formulas, and find the height and the surface area.
2. I need to combine the volume of a cylinder along with the surface area , I would need to know how to find my height, surface area and volume. I would need to know how to substitute values in , divide, simplified and also justify. I would also have to know my units.

Exit Slip 4/30
This PBAt is called the Can Project.
The task of this PBAT is to minimize the material that is being used for cans or cylinder due to the company I pick is being pressured by consumers. My task is to write a letter to the company that I pick. Depending on the company of my can I will be presenting the dimensions of my old and new can. I have to come up with a way to make the can cheaper but I have to use the same materials, but still keeping the same amount of volume of my can. I have to make two physical models of my can before and after. The way I will do this is; I have to keep the same volume of the can but make the surface area smaller. Next I have to find the radius, and height of the can as well. This is all the process of measuring the dimension and knowing what you need to decrease to minimize the material being used by these companies.

The important concepts of today's lesson was solving for the heights of my can. Also to find the area of a rectangle using length*width.
The mathematical tools i used was a calculator and Google spreadsheet. these tools were helpful because I did all my calculations on the calculator and then put in on a spreadsheet so it can look better i was able to insert a graph there also.
using a calculator and spreadsheet made my job easier because i just have to put my work in the i can highlight it and drag it down instead of writing it on a piece of paper that can get messy at anytime.

problem
hey wan, you told me to make a new post because you made a mistake on my Edline here is the mistake: 4/9/10 Graphing on a Google Spreadsheet 8/9 13.33/15
The function was not copied down from the first row of Column B , if you check my spreadsheet you will see that the function was copied down in column B. so can you fix my grade.
Also there is another problem on Edline 16 4/15/10 Exit Slip 4-Writing - Graphs mi . I already did this it's not missing.
Another problem i fix the error for: 4/15/10 Writing - Graphs 8/9 13.33/15
Min. for y1, but max for y2 in the third bullet.
Last issue what mistake did i make on the exit slip : 4/9/10 Exit Slip 2 Blog on Graphing 8/9 4.44/5

today in class we found our longest diameter measurements and my shortest height measurement. we helped each other by setting up the ruler the correct way, some of us helped each other with the calculations. for example Sharon help me with my calculations. I was able to accomplish all my work I got all my calculations that was needed.
The skills i learned today is how to measure the diameter and height of my can using a ruler(cm) and the results was labeled as cubic center meters . I will use these skills outside of school because my cousin has a project similar to this and she needs help. one thing i still have a question is why can't we put pi in the calculator.

There are two functions shown in this three column table. The first function is y1=4x^3+5, and the second function is, y2=7x^3+100.
The first column contains some values for the independent variable x. These values range from the numbers -25 to 25. The scale is set to 5.
These x values were substituted into the function, and the results are displayed in the second and third columns. Since these are cubic functions, the y-values first decrease as x-values increase from negative numbers to zero. For the first function y1=4x^3+5 ,(0,5) is the vertex, and for the second function y2=7x^3+100 (0,100) is the vertex. Which is also the minimum point on the graph. Then, the y-values increase as x increases from 0 to positive values.

Comparing Two Functions
The graph illustrates two quadratic functions.
The curvature of y2, compared to y1 is narrower and y1 is wider.
Compared to y1,y2's graph is shifted vertically. I see this in the graph by noting that the minimum point of y is (0,-100) is also the maximum point of y2.which is (0,-100)
There is no horizontal shift because the lines have the same pattern horizontally. The minimum and maximum line up at x=0.

In Class today the topic was to compare and contrast two functions. I used spreadsheet to organize my data.
While using the spreadsheet I added another equation to the C column which became my Y2 and it was the line I was using to compare and contrast. I change the symbol from negative to positive in the equation. so I can have more data and get the reflection from my first line on the graph. After that I had to edit my graph so it can show both equation and its reflection.
I created a new document and I had to insert a table for my two equations and I had different categories which were summarized as terms. I had to add both equations into different columns. To fill in my table I had to use insert the equation and what was needed for all categories. For my categories I had for my equation y1=-2x^2+9 my highest degree term was -2x^2 and my next degree term is 0 and the constant term was 9. For my equation y2=2x^2+9 my highest degree term was 2x^2 the next degree term was 0 and the constant term was 9.

1). One new thing I learned that was major was creating a spreadsheet. It was very helpful because you don't have to do that much work when using a spreadsheet.
2). One major problem I had while using the spreadsheet was creating an equation. this was a problem because every equation I chose the chart was a straight line instead of a 2nd or 3rd degree polynomial. The next time this problem occurs I'll ask one of my group members for help before I bring it to your attention. If this happens again i will be more creative when it comes to making an equation, i will even use older work from before just change my numbers around.

Progress 2
Hi Wan, my group and I are doing fine. Our guide through this project is our project we did before this one. We have all of our tables completed,we generalized and checked our answers with the calculators. The Graphs are almost done. On our graph it shows a thrid degree polynomial because we have three turns.
We are using FedEx express(130) and FedEx Ground(84). The designs we used are width=2x, width=3x, width=x+5,width=x+10, we used this for both shipping methods. We generalize by using X, the formula of Girth, formula of volume. For example, for FedEx Ground when X is equal to X height is also equal to X. The width will be X+5,length it will be 84-2(X+5+X).My formula for Girth will be 2(x+5+x). My formula for volume will be (84-(4X+10))*(x+5)*(x) because volume equals length*width*height.
We also checked eachother work to make sure everybody was on the same page. At this point the graphs are being processed. We scaled the graph by using the x and y axes. The X axes went up by one's and the Y axes went up by five thousand because we all had different volumes and different x's. So my grounp and I made a compromise. But for every design the tables were different all of our numbers were'nt constant. My maximum volume for X with FedEx Express is 19.3 my minium is 0 and the maximum is 20072.0. FedEx Ground my maximum for X is 11.6 and maximum for Y is 5314.8.Amanda's FedEx Express X maximum is 17.04469 and the Y is 19278.268. Her maximum for FedEx Ground X is 9.57 and her minium is 0. Her maximum for Y is 4816.9679My box for FedEx Express has more volume than amanda which makes her box flater, because her design was flatter than my design, my box had a bigger volume. My box for FedEx Ground is still bigger than amanda's which makes her box flater.

homework 3/2/10
Well my group and I are'nt doing well right now. We are a little behind with our tables. The reason we are so behind is because some of us doesn't really understand how to start the tables. Amanda and I are almost done with our tables. Its kind of diffcult to finish because I did'nt keep my X value constant I counted by 2's. Some of my numbers for volume came up wrong that's when I had to redo my table. Grace was way behind because she did'nt understand how to choose her X value. Angela was also unsure how to choose her X value. Amanda did'nt really need as much help with her tables because we did this before in a difeeerent project. But don't worry we will make a come back with no problems :) I love my group.
